Cloud Breaker Breaks Records

Posted by Tanner Labelle on

The second run Cloud Breakers were released on July 3rd. And they sold out faster than you can enter your credit card information. The Cloud Breaker is Eagle McMahon’s Signature Series DD3. The DD3 is the newest mold in Discmania’s Original Line produced by Innova Champion Discs.

12 | 5 | -1 | 3

With the flight numbers of 12 Speed | 5 Glide | -1 Turn | 3 Fade, many people are calling the DD3 a “Destroyer clone”. The DD3 is the most popular of the “Destroyer clones” that have been made this year. The others being the Discraft Kong (now named Zeus) and Dynamic Discs Raider.

How does it fly?

The Cloud Breaker (DD3) in my opinion is a slightly less stable Destroyer that has more glide. When I threw the Cloud Breaker along side a 4x McBeth Destroyer the Cloud Breaker had more turn and wanted to stay in the air longer before fading out. Over multiple throws, the Cloud Breaker was going 20-40 feet farther than the Destroyer. The current run of Wysocki Raptor Destroyers are similar in flight but I feel the Cloud Breaker (DD3) still has more glide. They are great for slow and fast arm speeds. Slower arms will use the DD3 for shots that need to fade at the end of their flight and can fly true into head wind. Faster arms will use the DD3 as their go to distance driver for forehands and backhands. It is able to turn slightly when thrown hard but still have a consistent fade at the end of the flight.

Utility Disc Golf saw record traffic on release day in anticipation of limited quantities. Even the stock release of the DD3’s saw instant sales. Our site sold out of stock stamped DD3’s in the first hour and the second run Cloud Breakers sold out in 10 minutes.

Dealers who decided to take their stock and sell them on auction sites are asking for double MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price). This is leaving customers frustrated because the demand has exceeded the supply.

Year of Evolution

Discmania is making big moves as a company in the past year. They moved from California to Colorado. And they have created two new lines of discs produced (Evolution and Active) by Latitude 64 and Yikun Discs. These changes have jump started their brand and created new interest in future product releases.

Discmania is aware of these growing pains and are making changes that will help future releases be more successful. Be patient and you’ll be able to get your hands on a DD3 or Cloud Breakers soon. The next estimated release date for the Cloud Breaker is September.
