Method Vs. Other Discmania Midranges
The Method is the first Midrange for Discmania’s Evolution Line of discs. The Evolution Line is a collection of discs that are manufactured by Latitude 64 for Discmania. Discs in the Evolution line will have plastic types similar to that of Latitude 64, Westside Discs, and Dynamic Discs. The Method was released in the Neo plastic. Neo plastic is the stiff durable plastic type from the Evolution Line. It is most comparable to Discmania’s C-Line plastic or Latitude 64’s Opto Plastic. The plastic is similar to Opto plastic but it isn’t identical. Most Opto Plastic is translucent or see through. The Neo plastic that has been seen with the first two disc releases has been more opaque or solid in color than Opto plastic. Discmania states that the Neo plastic is a preprietary plastic blend developed specifically for the Evolution Line.
The Method stands out in Discmania’s Midrange lineup. The profile is feels very different in the hand then molds with similar flight characteristics. Going by the flight numbers, the MD3 and MD4 are most similar to the Method.
Concave & Slightly Domey
The MD3 & MD4 have angular molds. When compared to the Method you’ll notice the flight plates are much flatter and the bottoms of the rim go down in a straight line.
The Method has a slightly Domey flight plate with a rounded upper rim. The bottom of the rim is concave and connects to a bead on the bottom of the disc. The bead is not as pronounced as other beaded midranges but when compared to the MD3 & MD4 the bottom of the rim (the bead) is much more blunt and rounded.
Overstable with glide is how I would describe the flight of the Method. The disc a predictable fade at the end of it’s flight. If you have a fast arm speed you’ll find the Method will hold the angle it is released on for around 70-80% of it’s flight before the fade will kick in. Unlike most overstable midranges, the Method has glide. It wants to stay in the air and continue to carry forward. With the flight numbers of 5 | 5 | 0 | 3 , it’s most comparable to the MD3 - 5 | 5 | 0 | 3 & MD4 -5 | 4 | 0 | 3.
HOW IT COMPARES
We compared the MD3, MD4, MD5, and Method against each other. The flight numbers would have you believe that the MD3 is the most similar to the Method but in my experience the MD4 is more similar. They both hold up to power and speed similarly and the amount of fade at then end of their flights are equal. The difference in flights is in the amount of glide the Method has over the MD4. The Method will carry farther forward when thrown at the same speed. Watch the video below to see how the discs fly with trackers.
